Hi guys,
I'm J.R. and I sometimes write in this blog (along with my friend Drew). I live in Oklahoma, so most of my autographs come through-the-mail (TTM). We've had the Thunder (NBA) for a few years now, but I've never actually been to a game because 1) I'm a fair-weather fan -- NASCAR, hockey, and baseball always came first, 2) I last followed the NBA from 1990-91 through about 1995-96, and my team was/is the Dallas Mavericks, and 3) the Thunder were terrible their first couple of seasons. My friend Mayra is moving away, so as a last hurrah, we're going to our first Thunder game. They play the San Antonio Spurs tonight. We're sitting in the nosebleeds, but I don't care -- I am going to try to get autographs. I was unprepared for this, but to be fair, I also didn't know how this would work or if I would even see anybody. That means I have nothing with me, save my Thunder hat and the complimentary program that everyone gets when they walk in the door. The first player to walk by, I don't know his name. Side note: as a n00b, this is a mistake you want to avoid when you go graphing in-person. Study a lineup chart before you go! Fortunately, I'm with my friend and she instantly recognizes him as Andre Roberson. I hold out my hat for him and he signs it in the sweet spot. It's nice, "AR21", very legible and clearly written. At this point, I'm hooked on IP autographs! Where has this been all my life? A short time later, DJ Augustin walks by, skips around while he's signing, and misses me. The next player to walk by, I also don't know. But my friend is excited -- it's superstar Serge Ibaka, who is hurt and not expected to play tonight. He signs my hat and moves on down the line. The last guy to stop and sign is one that I actually recognize, but my friend does not. It's Steve Novak, who completes the trifecta on my hat. I had a great time at this game, even though the Thunder lost badly to the Spurs. This fair-weather fan is now a die-hard fan. I'm looking forward to going again. Thunder Up! Augustin 0/1 Ibaka 1/1 Novak 1/1 Roberson 1/1 Until next time, J.R.
