Eleven-by-fourteens. The red-headed stepchild of the autograph hobby: everyone seems to get one of these in their collection at some point, but no one ever really seems to want them. This begs the question: WHY??? Being a collector first and foremost, I did a little digging to find out more. From personal experience, the 11x14s look much nicer. They show the image with greater clarity and allow the celebrity or athlete to sign their name boldly and beautifully. And if you're nice, sometimes they will sign their name much larger than they normally would. However, the biggest problem I have with 11x14s is that they are difficult-- no, impossible-- to store. What do you do with an 11x14? They don't easily fit into a 3-ring binder like the 8x10s do. Heck, with an 8.5x11 or even a 4x6, you can stuff those bad boys in a plastic sleeve protector and stick 'em in the binder with the 8x10s. But the 11x14s? Nope, can't do it; they hang out of the binder like a sore thumb. I suppose you could stick them in their own "special" folder, but there aren't many options out there. An art portfolio? Not exactly cheap (compared to 3-ring binders). I guess you could just frame them. But if your collection is anything like mine, you'd quickly, and I mean quickly, run out of wall space. So, my fellow collectors: what do you do with your 11x14s? I'd love to hear your thoughts. J.R.
